Steering adjust lever broke-What to do? V70-XC70

So tonight my mother and I get in her green V70 wagon (2003?) to drive an hour and half home and I flip the lever on the steering down, push the steering wheel in and down a little. When I flip the lever back up to lock it in place, I hear something plastic break off and the lever flops around loose now. I was able to drive home just fine but....mom is a bit taller than me. Is this something either I or Ben can fix easily, or should I take it to my local mechanic, or do I need to take it to a dealership? I have some experience on older model Volvos but don't have time for a long involved process for the next few weeks. Ben has some experience due to working on the Yellow Peril with my dad but no longer has the ol' Walrus to consult. I googled it but didn't find a whole lot. Thoughts?
