half axle came apart V70-XC70 2007

In the process of replacing ball joint on drivers side, the axle would not go in enough, so I pulled back the inner boot. The axle with the three big rollers had come out of the box they fit into. It does not look like anything holds the two parts together. Do I just push it back in or get a new half axle?.
