'03 S40 Radiator Petcock S40-V40

Hello All,

I am changing the thermostat and coolant sensor in my daughters '03 S40. (It is actually an early model '04, I just call it an '03 for simplicities sake.)

I have a little problem. I opened the petcock valve to drain off a bit of the antifreeze, but when I close it, it keeps running; like a trickle. I tried backing out the petcock and reclosing it, but it still keeps running.

I've not had one do this before. I suppose at this point I should just take out the petcock and inspect it, since the antifreeze is all going to run out anyway. I'm guessing a new petcock is in order. At least I am assuming the seal is on the backside of the petcock and not on the radiator itself.

Am I correct in my thinking? If anyone has knowledge in how these seal, I could use any insight you may offer.

Thank you,

Rich
