Why a LPT? C70 2000

I'm looking at Trading my 1994 850 Turbo in on a 2000 C-70 Conv. optioned out. It looks great. Then I find it's a low pressure Turbo- shattered...When I drove it, it was not nearly as responsive as my '94 850 with 144K miles on it. I really want the car but why did Volvo make this LPT anyway? I also noticed that it's 2.4 instead of 2.3 liters, meaning I can't boost the turbo??? Any experiences with the LPT? And Why did Volvo ever come up with this LAME LPT??? Thanks for the input.
