Today, day of start up after head gasket

And not too good. I am going the way of others before me with troubles post head gasket install.
I have exhaust fumes streaming upward from beneath the lower block at rear under manifold. I am going to investigate on ramps, hoping it is a simple thing like the oil cooler gasket. Could it be a cracked manifold?
Timing. I used a homemade cam lock but it is not quite strong enough to hold the 88lbs of pulley centre bolt. I am about two or three teeth out on the vvt exhaust pulley, and it runs badly. Further concern to that is when I used a tool at rear of camshaft to return the rear camshaft which turned a little just at the end of breaker bar install pull, the pulley at the belt didn't turn back, meaning the centre bolt may not be engaging the cams properly.
Screeching belt: Screeching belt maybe serp belt rubbing or one of the machines making awful whining, continuous not a belt lube problem.
Very white exhaust smoke: coming out of exhaust pipe after oil had warmed up a bit.

Well, that's my work today. Anybody encounter these same problems? How did you deal with them?
