2003 S40 Heater control S40-V40 2003

Replaced a defective heater box with a used one. Now, the used one blasts away with heat until you have to roll the windows down. Then after a little while, the heat shuts off completely. Is there a calibration routine or something? New heater boxes list for close to $1000 plus installation.
