From discussions held before here in the board it's a complete nightmare (time and money-wise) to import an euro-volvo into the US.
If you're in the UK then you can forget it right now as a RHD car will never be approved for the US roads. Some cars are simply denied access (eg. some high-end Porsche models never made it past certification in the US) and can never be used legally on the road in the US.
The problem mainly lies in all the paperwork and regulations which your car needs to comply to. Most european versions do not have all the required bits and bobs found on US cars (and some which are illegal in the US) and need (expensive) modifications, if at all possible.
If you have an engine/transmission combination that's not sold in the US then you also have the problem of getting it certified emission-wise and such.
Very lengthy business.. It's usually easier and cheaper to sell your car and buy another one in the US. Cars are loads cheaper in the US (slightly negated by the high dollar exchange rate at the moment though) than compared to europe anyway.
Your car would probably be completely un-sellable in the US anyway, so you would have to keep driving it until it falls apart..
