Cup Holder -movable cup retainer reintall V70-XC70 2000

The moveable cup retainer in one of my cup holder popped out. It appears that it could be reinstalled. Coincidentally, my XC at the dealer today for 15,0000 mainteance. They tell me I will have to replace the entire cupholder mechanism ($65 installed).

Has anyone had experience reinstalling the moveable retainer that is on the right hand side of each cupholder (facing the front of the car from the drivers seat).

The dealer that this is not a warranty item even though I see no apparent damage to the cupholder other than the retainer popped out.
