Rear Drum Brakes? Can I change to Disk? 400 1993

I have a volvo 440 Xi with rear drum brakes. I want to make my motor go faster BUT i also want it to slow down quicker. If i want to put disk brakes on the rear of my motor do i have to replace the rear axil with one from a 480 that does had disk brakes or is there an easyer way?
