Is my flame trap missing? 850 95

I pulled the throttle intake hose(s) off to clean the throttle body

on our 95 855 GLT (non-turbo). I also removed the plastic elbow that

is on the firewall side of the intake. I did this to clean the

flame trap and expected to find a part inside the "elbow" that can

be removed and cleaned. However, there was nothing inside this

elbow. Should there have been something in there that can be removed,

cleaned and replaced?

I understand sometimes mechanics remove the flame trap since it

can cause problems if it is clogged and the throttle body has

been service once by the delear.

Thanks in advance.
