Sounds like you are describing the SRC function of the radio. This feature is used to combat multipath interference. Good news is that it can be turned off. Give this a try and let us know how it works for you. Here is how to turn it off: Have the radio on and in FM mode, turn off radio, hold down CHGR button and turn on radio again while continuing to hold down CHGR

button, hold down CHGR button until you see SRC 2 displayed (2 is the default setting), when this is displayed release the CHGR button, then press preset button 4. Display should then read SRC 4. This defeats this function and the "problem" you are talking about. The display will return to normal after approx. 3 seconds. Give it a try!
