Buying xc70 guidance V70-XC70

Bevel gears do wear, Volvo seems to have strengthened the splines every year and the incidences of failure have diminished a lot. But, it all depends on the aggressiveness of the driver, especially when going from slippery spots to good pavement spots which puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain.

The bevel gear oil does need flushing, as does the Haldex system, at around every 50K miles or so. Volvo, unlike other car makers, does not have a scheduled maintenance program for either box. For longevity, I suggest you create one.

The same holds true for synthetic engine oil, where dealers cut costs by using regular oil.

Check that the Tbelt was changed at 105K mile service.
