2002 S60 Transmission Trouble S60

I have a neighbor with the S60 with about 70K miles who says his transmission is toast, but I find out he has not checked fluid level yet! He says it is not shifting until it warms up.

What is a good transmission fluid to use? Would the S60 benefit to a trans flush like we do on the A70 transmission.

Any advise is appreciated as I am out of my element with the S60.
