First my compliments to Mr. Ellwoth for his response on tuning for 1999- turbo cars. Since we get a lot of questions regarding ME7 tuning, my humble apologies for doing this but a reply here might clear some questions and reduce some kilobytes from our mailbox. Like mentioned in the previous reply, it is impossible to change chip or reprogram the ECU on ME7 equipped cars and to maintain diagnostic fuctions. To use Volvo Cars own words it's "Tamperproof". It's not even possible to remove the ECU without a special tool. I.E. each vital engine component has a PIN-code identity and if any of them needs a replacement a new software download is necessary from the Volvo service database. This download will either overwrite the ECU program or if the chip has been replaced, shut off the car. It's not even possible to take the car in for service if the mechanic connects the car to the terminal to shut off the service light. We have tested these ideas some 6 months ago but found it to be a dead end because of the mentioned problems. What we will introduce in the middle of this year for all ME7 cars including S80 T6, is an additional ECU that will work in combination with the original unit. During high engine loads, this extra ECU will override the signals from the original ECU to boost the hp and torque. To the customers, this new ECU will make it possible to tune ME7 equipped cars to similar results as previous models and with all service and diagnostic fuctions retained. The installation will be visible to the trained eye due to some external wiring and hoses but this is the best solution we can come up with, unless we will get approval from Volvo Cars to store upgraded programs in their database. One can always wish but...
