Front Wiper Arm Removal XC90 2006

I am trying to remove the front wiper arms and they don't seem to budge.

The wipers are in the park mode. I have removed the plastic shield, loosened the nut and tried to wiggle it off without success. Then used a "battery clamp puller" and it won't budge. Is their some sort of special tool, do they need to be in a special position or something else that I am missing.
