Fuel leak update... V70-XC70 98

Last week I posted a message about a fuel leak on my 98 V70AWD that happened right after filling up the tank. It appeared to be coming from above the main tank near the expansion tank. The dealer looked at it and advised bringing it back this week for further "diagnosis". It went back this past Tuesday and now sits there with its rear suspension dropped awaiting an expansion tank from Sweden. I "took Volvo by surprise" according to the dealer. I'm now driving a 99S70AWD loaner. My research has revealed at least two other reports of V70 leaks, including one on the NHTSA website:

Due to the implications of this kind of leak, I posted a "complaint" on the site and today was contacted by a memeber of the DOT who was aware of and "carefully following" all of the V70 leaks. They want to see my expansion tank and have lots of questions for Volvo. Soooo, if you have a V70AWD (and maybe other V70's as well), check for fuel leaks after you fill up your tank. This may be a bigger problem than Volvo realizes. And remember, when the nationwide recall happens, you heard it here first.

Still happy with my V70AWD...
