I believe that your front mount (Under crank pulley) is likely the culprit as they do fail in time.
You can support engine by placing a block under the front end adjacent to oil filter and then lifting. You do not want to lift excessively and you certainly do not want to lift 6 or more inches back from crank end of pan as that is where it is an unsupported aluminum thin casting. You will only need lift it enough to ease weight off the mouint so bolts come out without stress.
On a car with good mounts the rubber bumper on left underside of transmission will have only 1/2 " clearance.
