Gear shift won't come out of park S60 2005

2005 Volvo t5 was operating perfectly. Parked it day before yesterday. Yesterday, started engine, let engine warm, cleared windshields and gear shift would not move from Park.

When press on the brake, you can feel a "thunk" in the shifter button release, but shifter will not move.

Please help. We are stuck 100 miles from nearest dealership and cannot afford to have it towed. Husband is great mechanic on domestic cars, but has never seen this problem.
