Random high-pitched squealing from dash area V70-XC70 2014

What is this high-pitched squealing sound coming from the center dash (radio area)? Happened a couple of days ago briefly. Then nothing until returning home after dark in the rain last night from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. It pestered us on and off for 30 miles of driving in near constant rain at night. Gets higher in volume with increased pitch as it continues.

Engaged every button and switch available--ac, seat warmers, fan, airflow manual/auto, etc. to no effect. Not dependent on speed or engine RPM, though diminished and stopped when I slowed and stopped. Then did or did not resume when approaching maximum safe travel speed (50 m.p.h.--rain and night and good 3-4 lane semi-mountainous road).

Very inconsistent. Comes and goes with no apparent cause. Disappeared on last five miles when speed was about 40 mph max. But whether speed was a cause or the randomness was the cause is hard to tell.

Sounds like a dry bearing squealing on the verge of seizing. Is there a constant air circulation fan over which the driver has no control? If so, where is it and what kind of a job is it to replace it?

2014 XC70, 150K. Owned for two months.
