Replacing 850 upper tail.lights with V70 lights 850 1996

Picked up some tail V70 upper tail lights to replace my badly oxidized lights on my 850. I thought this was just a plug and play but the mechanic at the yard said I would need to change out the wiring harness which he gave me off the V70. Is this true?
