Frozen door handle V70-XC70 1998

Hi folks.
Another nusence (pardon my spelling)that someone out there may have a fix for.

The exterior door handle on the driver's door stays out rather than going back in. I have to push the handle back in or else the door will not shut/latch. I think some water or moisture got in there and froze. (-10C today). I tried to spray some WD40 (from the outside while pulling out the handle) in there but that didn't work. I'm sure this problem will go away with some warm weather but will this re-occur everytime it gets cold (it's just beginning)?
Any ideas?
