thoughts / advice on upgrading from 940 to V70 V70-XC70 2001

I went from a '92 945T to a 2000 V70 6 years ago, and I am very happy that I did-- it is one of the nicest cars I have ever owned. They are also very durable-- I see them for sale with 400K+ km on them all the time. You will need a code reader to keep it going-- trying to diagnose without one is basically just guessing.

Even knowing that the transmission is weak in the 2001 cars, I'd be tempted for $1200. Replace the B4 servo cover (~$30 for the part), flush with Toyota type IV fluid and then make sure you get the software update done on it. Shifting on mine improved dramatically with just the software update-- no more shift flares. Some people replace valve bodies on the 5 speed autos with good results if the rest of the car is in good shape.

I think the offset changed on the wheels around 2001 (my '92 RWD rims had the same bolt pattern, although I think the hub was bigger than on the V70).

Good luck!
