ECT change out problem.... S70 1998

ECT sensor went south...also changing t-stat...pins on ECT connection a bit corroded, pulled too hard to separate connector...wound up breaking off one wire on the ENGINE side of connector...rats!!..now what...??..can I take plug apart and attempt a splice?...don't see how plug comes apart....will twisting and tape be okay?...thinking not, as this is low voltage, critical to proper engine management...
