2001 S60 DSTC service message S60

I've had the "DSTC Needs Service" message for 2 days. This afternoon the engine stumbled when I took off from a stop (manual transmission) then went to idle speed & wouldn't go any faster (is this "limp home mode"?). I stopped, turned the car off then restarted it and it ran fine plus no more DSTC message. Can anyone explain what happened and/or tell me if there is a way to keep it from happening again (such as disconnect the battery to reset computers)? Thanks.
Marlin
