99 V70 Alternator Rotation

Time to pull the voltage regulator off the alternator and check the brushes. I suspect that one or both are worn so short that they could be in the process of falling out and jamming the works, so to speak, when turned counter clockwise.

With the regulator out, you could look around for some alternator/electrical shops and see if they can 'make' you a set of new brushes. That would be much cheaper than buying a new regulator.
