Stereo tape hiss new

I went down the road of upgrading bluetooth from the Radio Shack bluetooth cassette, (sound not great and recharging battery a pain) got a Best Buy iSimple Music Stream and connected per adding an Aux by soldering to tape connection board ans unit instrusctions. The sound is worse, (lower volume) and EQ is awful, and hisses like an old fashioned homemade Ampex tape. What now? one step forward, two steps hackward. No CD changer installed.
