Vapor canister 850 1994

I have just found out the vapor canister in our 855 is missing, and reading some posts now realize it is a common problem in these cars. Being that the vapor canister is more or less a generic accessory, has anyone had success fitting a more common (hopefully cheaper) than the $250 Volvo piece. Went to the U Pull It this morning and the oldest Volvo they have is a 1998!! I found some of the newer Volvos have a boxy (rectangular) canister, but since i do not know what the original looked like (i remember it being cylindrical),i can't tell if those will work.
