Reset Service Light - it's still on V70-XC70 2000

2000 V70 NA Denso AW-5 245K miles

Took a long drive today (200 miles) and after fueling and start up, the Service Light stayed on.

On this model year, reset is simple: push in trip gauge, turn key to I then II, wait ~ 5 seconds for service light to flash, then turn ignition off. Did this a couple of times, but service light is still on (goes off after about two minutes like it is supposed to).

Any ideas for keeping the service light to stay off? I'm under the impression that this service light is activated after the service interval of 7,500 miles is reached.
