After 23 years I got ONE new german front strut insert for my 850, mostly because mine could be bent and I have the right front apart anyway. My son was backing out of a driveway swung it into a tree 10 years ago. This put a big dent in the fender, and the tires wear on the insides. I like to be a perfectionist so I found that there are tools 9995467, 9995468 and 9995469 once existed and 2 of these tools have, maybe 2 inch offsets for a torque wench, so the values of 70Nm, will be something else on the nut. Well I bet 99% of the shops just use air gun. I got all the OEM bumpers, washers, pivots except the $130+ one with 3 bolts that bolts to the car. Probably the best thing is to pull the strut out and see if some Volvo specialty shop can do the insert swap for me. I did that with an Audi strut 12 years ago, the guy didn’t have the proper tool so he used a chisel to loosen a top cap. It worked, but a botched job if you ask me. I was disgusted.
Thanks to 9mm flats on the strut top shaft, folks get by with basic tools. There is a tool Laser 6979 from the UK that seems to be mimic one of the factory tools. CTA A446 and OEMTools 24363 are out there. I don’t have a spring compressor either, but that is no place to skimp. Any tips on the tools?
