Hub Job on 2003 S40 S40-V40

Hello all, I am looking for advice and insight on the part of those who are familiar with the S40 of this era, 2003 is the year I have. It is a great little car but I cringe at pouring too much into it.

A thrumming sound had been coming from the left front, my shop diagnosed as needing a new hub, which to me meant replacing the wheel bearings. They don't have a press to get the new one in, so after disassembly they'd have to go to a dealer or other shop to use their press.

Anyone familiar with the labor involved in this job? What should a fair price from a quality Volvo independent be? I have not looked up the parts, so any insight on that would be fine. If a Timken has a compatible set of bearings, I am open to using that instead of Volvo or other European supplier.

What do you think?

As ever, I value the experience this group has. This is my third Volvo and I just love them. Earlier, a 940, then an S90 which I really loved. Now the S40.

Best regards,

Doug
