Car "Blacking out V70-XC70 2004

Weird problem with my friend's car.
For the past few years when it's really hot outside, i.e. during the Summer about 11 or noon to 7 or 8 p.m., depending on the day, the car blackouts.
All electronics shut off but the car drives and runs. No Brake lights, power steering, A/C. If he lets it sit over night, all is well, until the next hot day...It appears something is overheating...but what?
