P0507 Idle RPM too high; engine shuts off with clunks S60

Our 2007 S60 with 2.5 Turbo has been having some idling problems (wavering RPM). In neutral, it glides up to about 900 RPM. Twice recently, it threw the

P0507 Idle Air Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

I replaced the Mass AirFlow Meter, and the idle was a little less choppy, but now it's still running too high.

I tried to listen for vacuum leak immediately after shut down....no hiss detected under excellent listening conditions.

Another clue is the way the engine shuts down. There are 2 thuds when shut off. Are these late firings?
First Volvo I've seen this problem with (on 12th Volvo).

This S60 has the B5254 T2 engine. We just had a complete PCV reconditioning (all new parts) a year ago.
It's at 98K miles, and is up-to-date on all service calls.
