fast and loud V70-XC70 2003

I am sorting out the last of the problems with the 2003 V70 that my daughter normally drives before she takes it back and returns my car. Upon start up,the the engine revs up to approximately 1750 rpm for about 15 seconds, before dropping to just under 1000. While at the higher rpm range, the exhaust is very noisy, sounds kind of like a tuners Honda Civic with one of those large diameter exhaust tips! I know that part of this problem is exasperated by the aftermarket (Bosal) exhaust system that has been installed from the cat back. It appears stock looking but I am guessing that internals aren't quite the quality of the original system, but even before the new system was installed the vehicle displayed the same louder than normal exhaust note opon start up. Any thoughts?
