1995 850 GLT to be acquired 850 1995

Hey all,


It has been quite a long time since I last posted on the forums. I still dabble in old Volvos but life got in the way and I haven't been as active as I would like to be.

Anyways - I've been given a unique opportunity to acquire a car that I've had my eye on for many years. It's a '95 850 GLT sedan, automatic, production date of 08/94 (very early '95 build). The car has had only one owner, an older lady whose husband ordered it for her as a birthday present in the summer of 1994. Each and every single service has been at the local Volvo dealership in Falls Church, Virginia.

Here's the good part - this car only has 58k original miles. I'm not joking - 58,136 miles are showing on the odometer. However, here's the not-so-good part - the Volvo has been sitting in the owner's garage for the better part of 8-9 months. She got another vehicle from another manufacturer and has let the 850 go by the wayside. She called me a few days ago and said that because I first asked her about the car 7 years ago, I was to be given first right of refusal. Because it's been idle for so long, the battery has gone dead.

So - the owner told me that if I can get a battery in the car and get it going, I can have it. For $500. I do know that the timing belt was replaced in September of 2006 when it had 40k on it. Should I have to replace it once it's back on the road?
