ignition key 1997 850 replacement

What happens is that when one is apparently in full running mode, the headlights, windshield wipers, and turn signals don't work. The heater is only half working.

The car runs fine, brake lights work, but a lot of this electrical stuff does not. I drove it home in this condition. BUT

I now know that if you back the key off a tad from its run position,i.e., a slight bit counterclockwise, all of the electrical stuff starts to work properly.

I haven't looked at the switch enough to speak to its various positions but will do this afternoon.

Thank you for your reply.
