Does anyone know how to switch a damper designed for a non-return fuel system to a return system? 850 1996

Hello All,

I recently posted a query asking if anyone could tell me where I could find a Bosch Fuel Pressure Damper (Volvo Part # 1275773 and Bosch Part # 0280161504). I have spent days calling around and searching on the internet to no avail. The damper on my 1996 Volvo 850 GLT Wagon, non-turbo, 5-speed manual, requires a damper designed for a "Non-return fuel system". Apparently, and this is speculation on my part, Volvo turbo engines sold during that time period used dampers designed for "Return Fuel System". Those type of dampers are still readily available. Apparently there are more turbo engine cars than non-turbo cars in the market place that justify the continued production of the "Return Fuel System" type of damper. That too is speculation on my part.

I am coming to the sad conclusion I may never find a damper designed for a "non-return fuel system". I am wondering if it is possible to convert my car to a "universal" damper or a Volvo style "fuel return system" damper? I mentioned this possible solution to my independent mechanic and he said he did not think it would be possible.

My question to all is: Does anyone know of a way to convert the damper on my Volvo from a "non-return fuel system" to a "return fuel system" so I could utilized the alternative fuel damper or at least a "universal" unit. I would appreciate any advice, because I face the real possibility I may soon have a Volvo that I like very much, that I can no longer drive. All due to a part that probably retailed for over a $100 when it was available. Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Hugh
