Must replace catalytic converter. What to do? V70-XC70

Hugh, could you give us the codes that your mechanic found? Have the O2 sensors been replaced recently? How soon do the codes come back after they have been cleared?

Volvo has very strict pollution code with the early 5 cyl engines using turbos. My 1995 throws a bad cat code if I drive at idle speed for more than 1 minute - nothing wrong with the cat, just the software.

You could look for a sensor spacer, IPD has one. The spacer moves the O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream, making the oxygen levels appear to not fluctuate.
