Thats the kind of answer I would expect from a service advisor. I usually bypass them and talk to the parts department or the service manager. The parts dept can order the key, you drive there, show them your registration and driver's license, and they order it for you.

Then you ask the service manager to charge you for only 30 minutes time and NO software charge, because there is NO software download.
