6 Spoke Alloy Wheel has a crack: get it fixed or buy a used one? 850 1996

Hello All,

I have a 1996 950 GLT Wagon (5-speed), non-tubo with 362,000 miles. A few days ago, I was having new tires installed, and the technician showed me how there was a crack in the inside portion of the rim. The crack runs perpendicular to the center. It is about 1/2" to 3/4" in length, and it looks like it could grow over time. I am debating to have it welded or just replace it with a used alloy wheel. My concerns if I weld it, is will the weld hold? Is it possible due to age and use, other cracks could form at different locations? It appeals to me to be "green" and get the alloy wheel repaired so I can "recycle" it. But safety is more important to me.

But maybe the best way to go, is just find a used alloy wheel in good shape instead?

I would like to hear others opinions and experiences. Thank you in advance to all who reply.

Hugh
