Hello All,
As some of you may know from a prior post, at 430,000 miles, my 1996 850 GLT wagon (non-turbo with a 5-speed manual) has suffered (I believe) a burnt valve. Assuming I don't have to have the lower portion of the engine rebuilt (I have seen blue smoke coming from the exhaust as I accelerate, but I am hoping that is due to worn oil seals and not piston rings), I will probably at a minimum have to have the head redone. Klaus recommended Clearwater Cylinder Head, Inc. based in Florida, though he admitted he had never dealt with them. I put a call into C.C.H. and was advised for $600 they will shipped me a remanufactured head together with a prepaid return shipping label to ship by my old head back to them. If I don't return the head in 30 days, I will be charged a $200 core charge. If they don't have a Volvo head to match my 850, I can send them my old head and they will repair it and ship it back to me in approximately 14 days for $600. This sound like a very good service.
My question to the Volvo community is: Has anyone had any dealings with Clearwater Cylinder Head, Inc.?
Thanks in advance to all who reply.
Hugh
