RPM stuck around 2500 at during in-town drive at 30-40mph V70-XC70

To all Volvo Gurus,

Lastest on the 2005 XC70 with 200k.
Was driving around town between 30-40mph. Noticed RPMs stuck at around 2500 for a few seconds.
Tapped brakes but RPM display stuck at 2500. Braked and slowed down but RPMs didn’t change. Engine responded to braking.

Pressed gas, RPMs jump up according and then seemed to un-stick the problem.
Drive home that followed was fine.

What should I be looking at? Anyone experienced this? Let me know.

Thank you to this forum.

James
