Steering Lock Removal / Repair V70-XC70 2000

2000 V70 SE 289K miles AW-55 Denso NA

Steering wheel locked up this week, can't move Ignition key past Position I. Can't turn the steering wheel nor place car in Neutral to push out of the way, either.

Have removed the entire key lock cylinder from the steering column (drilled out the security bolts - not fun) removed the bottom plate to access, but the steering lock mechanism is hopelessly stuck even after lots of fiddling. I plan to take the removed lock cylinder assembly to a locksmith to free it up and remove the damaged steering lock mechanism. I think the key and tumblers are OK.

Question: How is the gearshift lock cable removed from the lock key lock assembly? The cable is attached to the rear of the lock assembly and held in place by black plastic couplers. It doesn't look like it's easily disconnected.
