XC90 Instrument Cluster Fail

05 XC90 with a 2.5t (if it matters), instrument cluster completely failed. Nothing worked on it. I pulled off the battery cables and left if sit for several hours. The cluster has worked intermittently since then. Currently, the digital readouts will show gibberish, and none of the needles will move. All might work for a minute while driving here and there and then revert back to its non-working status.

Is repairing the cluster an option, or is the problem somewhere else?

A year or more ago, the gas gauge stopped working. In December when the temps were at zero, the gauge amazingly started working. But now the whole cluster is a problem.

I found the site ecutesting.com which claims to repair them. Not sure if I should give it a go or if the problem is somewhere else.
