Is it true some V70's do not come with an in-line gas filter? V70-XC70 2006

Hello All,

I recently purchased (168,000 miles) a 2006, non-turbo, FWD V70. I went to replace the gas filter and could not find it where traditionally it is located directly in front of the rear passenger side tire. I went on line and "Googled" "How to change a gas filter on a 2007 V70". I saw a video by Haynes where that showed a gas filter, that screwed into a platform near the rear passenger side tire. It was like and oil filter. You unscrewed the plastic cover, and removed the filter cartridge.

I called the Parts Dept. of my local Volvo dealer and provided the VIN of my V70 and asked for the part number of the gas filter. The Parts Manager said that based upon my VIN, my Volvo did not have an in-line gas filter. The gas filter was built within the pump. In order to replace the filter, you had to replace the pump. Apparently V70s with a steel gas tank have the fuel filter built within the fuel pump. Those V70s with a plastic gas tank have a traditional in-line filter that you can easily remove.

My question is: Are some V70s equipped without a gas filter, other than the one internal built into the fuel pump? I would love to hear from others. If this design is true, Volvo was nuts!
