Tail gate automatic opening problem V70-XC70

Disclaimer: I have never worked on a V70 tailgate lock. Just some general experience with hoods and tailgates.

Does it open at all? Manually? If so, you could try spraying the lock mechanism as well. Eyeball what happens when you close it. Does the mechanism latch appear to be hitting the striker plate at the correct angle? If it appears to be out of adjustment you could try moving it in small in increments then reattaching to see if that helps.
