I take it that you are talking about headlight bulbs and you are getting dash messages.

Is this correct?

In most cases, heat equals light - if you reduce voltage to a bulb, it would produce less light

I think that I do not understand your question.

Are the headlight bulbs too hot or are the resistors too hot? Either way, you could damage some expensive stuff.
