A/C and Air Ducting S40-V40 2003

I have never posted about this rather annoying problem, but maybe someone has seen this and can advise.

An ace mechanic at a pure Volvo garaged in Dallas told me it was a mechanical thing involving the linkages within the dash that move according to the controls on the dash that govern which ducts are open, closed, etc. He added that it would be very labor intensive to get into the dash to fix it.

When I put on most any AC mode, Heat or Cool, there is a pronounced tapping coming from inside the dash. OFTEN but not always if I push the "Recirc" button the tapping will stop but not always, and sometimes it will stop and start again. I was told that the tapping was a rod or actuator was blocked somehow.

Anyone ever encountered this problem? Theories? Ideas? Thanks, DougW
