HOW?

3 ways, in descending effectiveness...

1. Make the dimensions smaller.
2. Compress it more by (if .jpg) reducing 'quality' setting to a lower value, or (if .gif) reducing number of colors used to form the image. Both these controls are available in most every piece of software that saves images for the web.
3. If it's a .gif, try saving as a .jpg, and vice-versa. Generally, photos should be and look best as .jpg. The format is custom made for photos.

To get software to do this, go to www.download.com and type in 'image resize' in the search box. Many are shareware, some are freeware. Also, check to see that you don't already have Adobe's PhotoDeluxe. I can't swing a dead cat without hitting a pc that has this.
