850 Remotes (Model Year Compatibility) 850 1996

Although I don't know the whole story, I can tell you that my 96 *did not* accept the remote with buttons top and bottom, but I was able to return it to the E-bay seller I bought it from and get the remote with buttons side-to-side. That one worked. So I'm not surprised your 95 will not accept the top-bottom remote.

See if you can return it to the seller, especially if he/she advertised it as for your model year.
