starter problems 850 1994

I have a stock 96 850 wagon with the 5234T engine. The starter motor has been reluctant to start on occasion. It seemed to be intermittent, but when I applied some scientific investigation, I noted that it starts reliably when cold, but once the engine is hot the starter won't turn the engine over. The solenoid appears to be good. When the starter does work.....it sounds good too. When it won't start, there is no sound at all. I hear the solenoid click once (with the key in the III position) to send power to the starter and then nothing. When the car cools back down....it will work again.

Any ideas? Has anyone had this happen to them?
